It’s always big news when a wealthy benefactor drops a few million on a college or pays for a new hospital wing…..
But no one seems to notice a poor person giving a quarter to someone else in need. That is, no one but Jesus, whose keen eye watched a lady entering the temple courts one day in Jerusalem. Could you ever be commended by God for giving, like this woman, all you have?

An old proverb says “many hands make light work.” In the church, everyone has a part in meeting financial needs.
In the book of Exodus, we read of the building of God’s tabernacle. There’s great detail on everyone’s contribution, both of time and treasure, to make the project a success. When we see giving as an act of worship, we cease focusing on the money and begin focusing on God.

In a weakening economy, it’s easy to reduce our giving to the work of God. After all, we need to eat and pay the rent…..
Many of us are burdened with debt at the same time as our jobs are in jeopardy. So, what do we do? Today, we begin a series that will show us how to honor God no matter how empty our wallets get. The key…..realizing that our use of money is one way in which we worship God.

There have been several great awakenings, or times of revival in America…times when God manifested Himself in power……
The city of Chicago felt the rushing mighty wind during the days of D.L. Moody, the founder of Moody Church. We’re learning about those special times “When God Comes to Church,” and today, we’ll relive those days that happened right here where this broadcast comes from.

We know that God is always with His people, as He’s promised to be. But there are times of His special presence in power…..
These are known as times of revival, times when new life comes to the church, and then to the community at large. When this happens, we say that “God has come to church.” Today, an encouraging look back to times when God indeed came to church, and words of hope that He’ll do so again.

Some of us are early risers. We hit the ground running, do our day’s work, spend time with the family, and then hit the sack at bedtime….
Others are night people….preferring to sleep in and then work and play in the dark. The Bible talks about day people and night people as well, although in a different way. Today, find out if you’re a day person, or a night person…the distinction is crucial.

When it seems the news can’t get any worse, it does. Many wish for the Lord’s return, to put an end to the bad news…….
The Christian knows that this world is not his home, he’s just passing through. In First Thessalonians we learn of the glorious return of Jesus to set right all that is wrong, and, to take His followers to be with Him. As we wait, the church is called to be watchful.

When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on tablets of stone, He most assuredly was not handing down the ten suggestions….
There are laws at work in the spiritual universe: laws that can neither be debated, nor circumvented. We may claim freedom from the law as believers, thinking we can do as we please. But God has a word for those of us who feel this way, a word brought to us by the Apostle Paul.

“Be still and know that I am God….” That’s getting tough with many of us glued to the internet or our wide screen TV’s….
In one sense, we have way too many options to fill our time. A thousand voices scream at us via radio, cable TV, DVDs, and the World Wide Web. Developing godly character requires developing our inner lives. Today: words of challenge on holiness.

Taking a stand for what’s right means going against the prevailing tide. To do this, we need strength from God….
To a large extent, that strength comes from developing a life of prayer. The Apostle Paul modeled this for us in his writings to the church at Thessalonica in ancient Greece. Today: how prayer gives us the courage to hold our ground for the truth of the gospel.

There are times when believers can no longer be passive. When the tide of evil rises, we can and must take a stand…...

Everybody likes a servant. We all enjoy being waited on. But not many of us like being the ones doing the waiting….
Servants have to serve even when those they serve don’t appreciate it. They know that God watches their service, and is pleased. A church that serves is a church where God’s presence is felt very strongly. That’s a lesson we’re taking home from our current study on revival.

When all around us is turning to dust, we can still experience the joy of knowing that God remains on His throne…...
The church in Thessalonica underwent persecution, but nonetheless exhibited the joy of the Lord despite their trials. That’s what happens when God’s presence is very real, as it is during times of revival. Today: a further look at a church when God “shows up.”

In the old days, it was said, “his word is as good as his bond.” A handshake and a promise was all it took to seal the deal. These days, when a marriage breaks up, we have pre-nuptual agreements to divvy up the loot. Few take seriously the covenant they enter into when they tie the knot and exchange the rings. Today: back to basics, and why marriage, in God’s eyes, is a lifetime deal, come what may.

Even among Christians, a marriage today has 50-50 odds of succeeding. Now, it’s “split up” when the going gets tough. Wanda and Gustav Lutzer bucked the trend by celebrating 76 years of marriage in Canada. Their fifth child is Dr. Erwin Lutzer, who tells their story again on today’s program, listing five principles that kept his parents together through thick and thin.
